Gastroscopy (upper gastrointestinal endoscopy)

Compared to conventional oral endoscopy

We use nasal endoscopy, which places a much smaller burden on patients.

Visit, examination, and explanation of results

Except for emergency endoscopic examinations, appointments are required. Those who wish to undergo the examination will first visit our hospital to check their medical history, medication status, symptoms, etc. For patients with a family history of Helicobacter pylori or those with gastritis who have not been eradicated, we will check for the presence of Helicobacter pylori through a blood test.

On your way home, you will decide with the staff which date you would like your test to be taken.

As for dinner the night before, it is fine as long as you finish it by 9pm at the latest.

Do not eat anything until the test is over. You may drink transparent liquids (water, tea, sports drinks, etc.) between the time you wake up and the time of the test.

Please come to the hospital about 15 minutes before your scheduled examination time. In rare cases, your clothes may get dirty, so please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. If you wish, we can lend you an examination gown. Before the examination, you will drink about half a cup of antifoaming agent to remove bubbles in your stomach. After that, anesthesia will be injected deep into your nose and you will wait until the topical anesthesia takes effect.

Once preparations are complete, you will be guided to the examination bed. You will lie on your right side and assume the examination position. Depending on the patient, the examination may take about 10 minutes, but generally it takes about 5 minutes. If there are no particular abnormalities after the examination, the results will be explained to you on the spot, and you will be billed and the examination will end. If tissue samples are taken, the pathology results will be available in about 10 days, so you will be informed of the results at a later date. Since we do not perform sedation examinations at our hospital, you can go home immediately after the examination if there are no problems.
